It seems common sense may have prevailed as the release date has dropped back to 12th May 2008 (although it is available from tour merchandising).

Sadly suggestions that this would be a PAL release with an NTSC one to follow were unfounded and it is another of the NTSC all regions releases.

The DVD seems to be a fusion of an actual live performance and a live in the studio recording, though I may be wrong about that.

THE BURNING, 1984 and G'OLE released as 'mini-LPs' (updated),

I'm somewhat belated with this news, and I haven't updated the discography yet, but the latest albums to receive the card sleeve 'mini-LP' treatment in Japan are:

THE BURNING (AIRAC 1439)
1984 (AIRAC 1440)
G'OLE (AIRAC 1441)

The release date is 16th January 2008.

UPDATE: These are now mentioned in the discography. They are said to be new 24 bit remasters but Voiceprint apparently licensed the product to Air Mail Japan so it seems likely they are actually the same as the their 2006 remasters (unless you know different!),

MORNING HAS BROKEN reissue with new cover.

MORNING HAS BROKEN has been reissued by Kevin Mayhew (http://www.kevinmayhew.com/) with new cover art.

Major problems with the VIDEO VAULT (updated)

The VIDEO VAULT boxed set was sent out by Voiceprint pretty much on schedule but it did have major problems. Firstly it was delivered in a flimsy card slip case which Voiceprint blame on an error by the printers. They promised a replacement in two or three weeks. At least they noticed which is a major achievement considering the remainder of the problems...

Four of the six DVDs had the labels and contents mixed up. Yes, you did read that correctly. This was blamed on Sony.

The 'King Arthur On Ice' DVD has a problem with the track 'Galahad'. The track is butchered beyond belief and was barely worth including but given it was included once would have been enough. Yes, the same mess is on the DVD twice.

Voiceprint have indeed replaced the card cases and the new ones are said to be good quality. They have also been replacing the discs for those who want them replacing.

RICK WAKEMAN VIDEO VAULT

I was waiting until I saw an announcement about this on the RWCC and/or Voiceprint site, but as Voiceprint have put a trailer on YouTube that includes a URL and that URL is also now indexed on Google that has put the information into the public domain...

Some time ago it was announced that there would be a release of some archive videos. Initially it was suggested these would be released individually at the beginning of 2007 but in April it was suggested that there would actually be five DVDs plus a bonus in a boxed set. Well that boxed set is being released at the end of August 2007 as a limited edition of 1,000. See http://wakemanvideovault.com/ for information.

I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised to see the five DVDs released individually once the box has sold out. I also wouldn't be at all surprised to see the boxed set sell out quickly and then copies appear on eBay.

Rick provides soundtrack to an Aleister Crowley film.

Classic Home Entertainment are releasing a film on DVD in September 2007 called IN SEARCH OF THE GREAT BEAST and subtitled 'Aleister Crowley The Wickedest Man In The World'. This has the triple purpose of providing a measure of UK availability (if Amazon UK list it as available from themselves it probably is quite freely available), providing links to further information such as reviews and often track listings, and also being affiliate links.

I have now enable 'product previews' on the discography. That means if you have scripting enabled and hover for a short while over one of the links then you'll get a little window appear showing basic information of the product on Amazon UK. You may or may not find this intrusive but I am hoping it will assist me in my maintenance of the page.

RETRO 2 to be released at the end of June.

HMV Japan started listing RETRO 2 for release on 5th July 2007. It is on President Records and the catalogue number is RWCD39, This seems an odd date as it isn't a Monday and indeed Play.com are listing 25th June which makes more sense.

Having said all that, it seems that some people have already received a copy by the end of May.

THE OTHER SIDE OF RICK WAKEMAN.

The long awaited DVD of Rick recorded live in the studio has been announced and will be released on 25th June in the UK, 29th in Europe, and 28th August in the USA. The four titles previously available from Studio T are apparently also now available from the major stores.

Update: It seems my presumption may have been wrong as one person who has downloaded this release says it sounds like studio recordings of the live material. I've checked the tracklisting and it is identical to that of THE OTHER SIDE OF RICK WAKEMAN including the extra audio track on the DVD.

LIVE AT THE BBC (updated).

A two CD set is due to be released by Hux Records in the UK on 19th February 2007. The first CD is a BBC Radio 1 'In Concert' recording from 1976 with the second apparently basically being LIVE ON THE TEST.

There is also a Japanese release listed as being from MSI on 25th January. The cover art seems to be the same.

I now have this release and I can report that it is digitally remastered and that the second CD is not the same as LIVE ON THE TEST as Rick's intros have been removed and that includes the Johnny Cash section.

AMAZING GRACE DVD+CD (updated).

Somewhat out of the blue, no mention having been made in the RWCC newsletters of the project, a DVD+CD set was announced for release on 2nd April 2007 with plans for later audio and video downloads. The publicity for AMAZING GRACE led me to infer that it featured Rick playing hymns live in the studio on Grand Piano with assorted accompanying visuals. In fact Rick's introduction to each hymn features him at the piano but only some feature him playing live. It is the remaining hymns that have the visuals with Rick playing piano and some additional keyboards as the soundtrack. The CD features some extra hymns and is reordered.

SIXTY MINUTES WITH... - a new compilation from Voiceprint (updated).

Voiceprint are listing a compilation of Rick's work in their SIXTY MINUTES WITH... series for release on 26th March 2007, catalogue VP6015CD and this is now being listed by Amazon UK (link available on the website). As the catalogue number is MFVP116CD it is clearly the latest reissue from Music Fusion/Voiceprint. The track listing seems to be the same as the original release.

Details are now available on the Voiceprint site and they say it has been remastered and it is illustrated with what appears to be the original UK cover. They gave a release date of the 2nd April but this seems to be wrong as Amazon had it in stock in early March and Voiceprint were also shipping direct by then.

Download only releases of DVD soundtracks.

While checking out 'Studio T', who are behind AMAZING GRACE, I came across four download albums which correspond to Classic Pictures DVDs. The old Music Fusion release is still listed by Amazon UK as available along with at least one other.

Comparing the cover images on Amazon UK for the old and new Music Fusion releases it becomes clear that the lettering on the latter has been slightly reworked and has also dropped down the page a little. The cover also looks a lot brighter though that could be inconsistent colour reproduction when creating the images. Anyway I note it so those who like to collect all the different covers can bear it in mind.

Another release of CLASSIC TRACKS with extra tracks.

I've come across a new issue of CLASSIC TRACKS on Japanese websites for release on February 21st. It is on Ward Records TKCW-32146 and is being listed in many places as CLASSIC TRACKS - THE COMPOLATION (sic) which is actually a typo as it is called CLASSIC TRACKS - THE COMPILATION. Unfortunately it seems to be listed as just CLASSIC TRACKS in many listings.

I came across the cover as the later version of what I call the comic book art one but that seems to be an error in fact it is actually new and it emphasises THE COMPILATION.

The track listing really is a bit odd and has been shown as:

1.Elizabethan Rock
2.Catherine Howard
3.Paint it Black
4.The Myths and Legends of King Arthur
5.Merlin the Magician
6.Starship Trooper/Wurm
7.Eleanor Rigby
8.Umberto (feat. Mario Fasciano)
9.Journey to the Centre of the Earth

However Ward Records site suggests that this is actually a two CD set and with one track on the second disc and this is indeed the case.

The label name featured most prominently on the CD is actually Pure Gold and that is the one listed by Amazon UK.

Reissue of CIRQUE SURREAL.

Looking over someone'e shoulder at an Anderson Wakeman concert in October, I thought the Voiceprint advertisement in the programme showed the cover of Cirque Surreal among their releases. It seems I was correct as it is being listed for release on 29/01/2007 as MPVP115CD. The cover art may have been subtlely altered, but as with several other releases I'd welcome comment from those who have seen the actual product.

Reissues of the "SUN TRILOGY"

The latest reissues announced by Voiceprint are remastered versions of ASPIRANT SUNRISE, ASPIRANT SUNSET and ASPIRANT SUNSHADOWS as MFVP111CD, MFVP112CD and MFVP113CD. The release date is 13/11/2006. The covers shown on the Voiceprint site have borders the President releases don't and the colouring is a little different. Whether they are different in reality is another matter.

I note Voiceprint claim they were recorded in 1991 though I have them listed as 1990 releases. They also claim they haven't been available for some time even though they seem to have been continuously available from President since about 1993.

I had noted the background looked blacker on the Voiceprint site but thought it might just be a colour reproduction thing. However closer inspection shows the text has been adjusted slightly and is yellow rather than white. So there may be a new cover after all. Clarification would be appreciated.

Possible new cover art for the TRIBUTE and FIELDS OF GREEN reissues.

I note that although Voiceprint illustrate the TRIBUTE reissue with the original cover art, the cover art that is shown on Amazon UK has the lettering redone. I would welcome confirmation from anyone who has seen the actual product.

The artwork illustrating the FIELDS OF GREEN reissue on Amazon UK seems a lot brighter than that for the original release. This could just be differences with colour reproduction or it could be the cover art has been modified. Confirmation is again welcome.

Remastered reissue of CHRISTMAS VARIATIONS.

The second reissue from Voiceprint for October 2006 is Christmas Variations on MFVP109CD. The cover shown on the Voiceprint site is interesting for being the second one that Music Fusion used (the one with the owl on it) rather than the third one.

CORRECTION: Closer examination suggest the cover differs in text and background colour and position of the lettering so it may well have been revamped.

Remastered G'OLE!
