The options for the Boxes are found in
boxes-options.php. The Boxes are displayed on the Main Index by default but can be included in any template.
There are nine boxes arranged as three rows of three which can be independently hidden. Each box has a header with a coloured background and white text, and a matching coloured border around the box. These default to being in nine of the brand colours but can be individually configured to any of them. The text that appears in the header of each box does not default to anything useful so will certainly need configuring (except where widgets are used as any 'title' assigned by the first widget will also be the header).
Each row of boxes defaults to being shown, but until an option is selected and saved there won't be any indication of this on the radio button. The top row of buttons will default to the colours Scout Blue, Scout Green and teal (from the 2015 brand guidelines). These correspond to the colours of the 2018 versions of the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts section logos.
The middle row of boxes repeats the colours from the top row by default.
The bottom row of boxes defaults to using the colours Scout Navy (Explorers), black (Network) and Scout Purple (TSA).
WordPress usually displays the latest posts on the Blog Posts Index Page and out of the box that is the same as the Front Page. So it could reasonably be expected that the latest posts will be displayed on the theme's Main Index Page. Not wishing to do anything too unexpected either way, the theme defaults to displaying the titles of the latest five posts in the first box in the top row. That way it is clear that the posts are available if required. An option allows the posts to be displayed in one of the other eight boxes, or indeed not at all.
The theme can optionally display a table of information about the logged in user along with a logout link, or a login link if no one has logged in. It is also possible to enter additional HTML to be displayed for logged in and logged out users. This information can be displayed in any of the nine boxes and is independent of any widget used in the box.
